Johnny Walsh

Composer, Writer, diplomat

Johnny Walsh is the co-author of Tear a Root From the Earth, and the cellist and mandolinist for the Americana folk band Gramophonic. He has been writing music and performing in bands and string orchestras for over two decades, and playing rock & roll with his father since he was old enough to sit upright. He began developing Tear a Root from the Earth in 2010 while serving with the U.S. State Department in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

When he isn’t writing and playing music, he works as a diplomat and foreign policy expert, focusing since 2010 on a peace process to end the war in Afghanistan. He is currently a Senior Expert at the US Institute of Peace.
